Doubling Up

Updated: Sep 26, 2018

Arkley...

This project included an extension to the client’s kitchen, doubling its size, adding a double height area with vaulted ceiling and VELUX windows.

The brief from the customer was to design a bright open kitchen with plenty of storage and a dining area.

The appliance requirements included a single oven, combination microwave, both gas and induction hobs, an American style fridge freezer, two dishwashers and a wine cooler.

The kitchen furniture was supplied in a handleless option in a mix of high gloss basalt and Kashmir with 20mm quartz worktops.

Despite the size of the kitchen, the wall space was limited due to the size of the windows.

This meant that the cooking and refrigeration area was quite compact but functional nevertheless.

The long run of worktop under the windows provided a considerable preparation area and included a double sink and two dishwashers.

An island provided additional preparation work surface, the ideal location for the induction and gas hobs.

A ceiling extractor was then mounted in a bulkhead above.

To the rear of the island, the wine cooler looks very attractive and the work surface above provided an area to prepare drinks whilst not interfering with the main working area of the kitchen.

The dining table sits very well in the brightest part of the kitchen together with additional storage units in the same area.

These were supplied with push catch doors to vary the appearance from the main kitchen area.

LCD lighting was fitted to the recess of the rail handles in the kitchen area and the plinth of the dining area to provide another feature.
